L.S Lowry Art Print- Head of a Man 1938
L.S Lowry did not identify his portraits, giving them general titles such as ‘Head of a Man (With Red Eyes)’. This portrait was produced in 1938, the year before his mother, whom he had a turbulent relationship with, passed away. The use of red for the sitters eyes and nose is evident of the grief and anger Lowry was feeling, a rare expression of emotion in his work.
Laurence Stephen Lowry RBA RA (/ˈlaʊri/ LAO-ree; 1 November 1887 – 23 February 1976) was an English artist. His drawings and paintings mainly depict Pendlebury, Lancashire (where he lived and worked for more than 40 years) as well as Salford and its vicinity.
Lowry is famous for painting scenes of life in the industrial districts of North West England in the mid-20th century.
